The Battery Bonus Program pays residential and commercial customers of O’ahu to add battery storage to new or existing rooftop solar systems.
Qualified new and existing customers will receive a one-time bonus payment of $850 per kW and a monthly peak capacity bill credit of $5 per kW for the 10-year duration of the program.
Customers currently enrolled in an NEM program with systems installed prior to 2015 can now have additional panels installed along with the new batteries and will continue to receive full benefits of their existing program.
Customers not enrolled in HECO’s NEM Program will receive a fixed monthly bill credit for energy exported to the grid for three year, based on the respective retail rate for electricity exported during the two-hour period.

Program Details
- Available to new residential and commercial customers and existing residential and commercial customers with equipment installed prior to 2015
- Customer must install a battery of any size and may add new panels as long as the additional PV capacity is not more than twice the battery size
- All projects must be completed by February 28, 2024
- Bonus payments are made after installation, operation and contract signature
- Monthly capacity bill credits expire at the end of 10 years
- Customers must commit to a daily fixed kW discharge (committed capacity) during a set 2-hour period assigned by HECO at enrollment; after 2 years, this discharge window can be shifted or a transition to another battery discharge option may be negotiated
